Vietnamese minimum wage to increase 7.3 percent from early 2017

Xinhua, November 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Minimum wage for contracted employees in Vietnam will increase by 7.3 percent, namely 180,000-250,000 Vietnamese dong (8.18-11.3 U.S. dollars) per month from Jan. 1, 2017, according to a decree by Vietnamese government on Friday.

Accordingly, minimum monthly wage for contracted employees in Vietnam's four geographical regions will range from 2.58 million Vietnamese dong (117 U.S. dollars) to 3.75 million Vietnamese dong (162 U.S. dollars), reported the state-run news agency VNA.

Employees working for branches or representative offices of companies will be paid the wage applied for the region that the offices are located in. Enterprises in industrial parks, export processing and economic zones spanning localities with different wage regulations will apply the highest minimal wage.

The decree also stipulates that enterprises must not cut down or abolish payments for employees for overtime or in extreme working conditions as well as other supports and allowances, said VNA. Endit
