-- South African mining companies warned of "dire consequences" for the industry if a revised Mining Charter is implemented next month as planned, deepening a long-running spat with the government.

Proposed new taxes on company revenue to fund a Mining Transformation and Development Agency would place additional burdens on producers that lost a combined R37 billion (2.6 bln U.S. dollars) last year, the Chamber of Mines said Thursday in an emailed statement. (Fin24)

-- The extreme weather experienced in various regions in the country this month is a direct result of climate change, Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe said.

Radebe held a post-Cabinet meeting press briefing in Parliament on Thursday and called on all South Africans to be cautious following storm conditions in Gauteng. (News24).
