Albania, EU launch joint project against corruption

The Albanian government and the European Union have launched a joint project against corruption, local media here reported Thursday.

This is the largest anti-corruption project of its kind even launched in the Western Balkans and it is financed with an amount of 3 million euros from the European Union.

Under this project, public authorities of two EU members, Austria and Germany, will assist the Albanian state administration in the preparation of its EU membership, EU delegation office here said in a press release.

They will support Albania in the next 29 months in its fight against corruption, media reported.

According to Albanian minister of state on local issues Bledi Cuci, the judicial reform remained a milestone of the institutional fight against corruption.

Fighting corruption is one of the key priorities in the further progress of Albania towards EU, he said.

On his part, European Commission's director general for neighborhood policy and enlargement negotiations, Christian Danielsson, said that constant efforts will be made to develop policies and concrete actions to eradicate the scourge of corruption.(1 euro = 1.07 U.S. dollars) Endit
