Zambia sees less gender-based violence in third quarter

Zambia recorded a yearly drop of 14.5 percent in gender-based violence during the third quarter of 2016, police authority said Thursday.

The country recorded 4,235 gender-based violence cases during the period compared to 4,951 cases recorded in the same period last year.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said in a statement that the country recorded 15 gender-based murder cases during the period, compared to the same period last year when 17 cases were recorded.

She further said the country recorded a total of 615 cases of child defilement in the third quarter compared to 688 cases recorded during the same period last year, representing a 10.7-percent decrease. Endit
