Unemployment in France up 0.1 pct in Q3

Xinhua, November 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

France recorded a higher jobless rate over the third quarter compared to previous quarter, the national statistics institute, Insee, said Thursday.

In mainland France, 9.7 percent of the active population, or 2.8 million people, was unemployed, up by 0.1 percent from the second quarter of 2016.

However, year-on-year, the jobless rate was down by 0.4 percent, Insee data showed. The number of jobseekers aged between 25 and 49 fell by 0.2 percent over the period.

Facing growing unemployment, President Francois Hollande has pledged to create jobs, particularly among young people, as a way to boost his bid for re-election. Endi
