Liaoning nip Shanxi 157-152 after three OTs

Xinhua, November 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

Visiting Liaoning edged Shanxi 157-152 on Wednesday after three OTs as both teams fought out of bullets in the seventh round of the 2016-2017 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.

Shanxi's point guard Jamaal Franklin finished with a game-high 60 points, 21 assists and 13 rebounds, which is his second straight game earning 60 points or over. Three other Shanxi players scored double digits.

Liaoning's Lester Hudson had a team-high 53 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Guo Ailun, who finished with 43 points and eight rebounds.

Guo Ailun's excellent performance in the third OT made it the last one and Liaoning the winning side, and four players from both teams fouled out in today's game.

"I'm satisfied with today's performance as all the players did their best and we did a good job in defending Franklin. He got 60 points today as we got three OTs," said Guo Shiqiang, head coach of Liaoning.

What bothered Guo was the absence of He Tianju and Li Xiaoxu for the whole season, two players of the starting five, "They will miss the whole season, which caused big trouble for the team. But we'll stick to it, just like today."

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Guangdong beat the defending champion Sichuan 100-93, Jiangsu beat Qingdao 111-98, Beijing hammered Aolong 113-95, Tongxi beat Bayi 88-83, Zhejiang smashed Shandong 103-82, Fujian lost to Shenzhen 85-100, and Guangshan passed Tianjin 130-98.

Jilin edged Shanghai 104-103, which gave the visiting team Shanghai their first loss in the season after seven rounds.

Xinjiang was the only team winning seven straight games so far as they beat Guangsha 99-89 on Tuesday. Endit
