Saudi jobless rate hits new high since 2012

The unemployment rate among Saudis hit 12.1 percent in the third quarter of this year, the highest since the same period in 2012, Al Eqtisadiya news website reported on Wednesday.

Of a total of 5.72 million local workforce, 254,100 are unemployed males, the report said without mentioning the number of the unemployed Saudi women.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labor said on Wednesday that a national employment portal has offered so far 121,000 job vacancies in the private sector, according to the Saudi News Agency.

Of them, 100,00 jobs are in the retailing and car maintenance sectors, while there are various posts in health, social care, technical, commercial and medical sectors, it said.

The ministry also offered jobs for women, disabled and men living in remote areas through a distance job scheme. Endit
