At least one person was killed and 16 others injured on Wednesday after a passenger bus collided with a heavy truck in Ukraine's northern Zhytomyr region, the National Police said in a statement.

The accident occurred at 7:30 a.m. local time (0530 GMT) at the Zhytomyr-Mogyliv-Podilsky highway, when the truck driver lost control of the vehicle on the icy road and crashed into the bus in the opposite lane.

Seventeen people in the bus were hospitalized with multiple traumatic injuries, including the 55-year-old bus driver, who later died in the hospital.

Meanwhile, the truck driver and his passenger were unhurt.

From January through October this year, some 122,000 road accidents have occurred in Ukraine, killing more than 2,600 people and injuring about 26,600 others. Endi
