Eurozone trade surplus increases in September

The eurozone's trade surplus increased in September, according to data released on Tuesday by Eurostat, the European Union's (EU) statistical office.
Early estimates for the eurozone international trade in goods showed that there was a 26.5-billion-euro (28.48 billion U.S. dollars) surplus in September, compared with 19.2 billion euros surplus during the corresponding month in 2015, the figures showed.
Intra-euro area trade remained nearly stable at 148.3 billion euros in September, compared with September of last year, Eurostat said.
In September, the imports of the euro area stood at 150.2 billion euros, falling 2.0 percent compared with September 2015.
Meanwhile, exports from euro area to the rest of the world was 176.7 billion euros, an increase of 2 percent compared with September 2015.
For the months from January to September, the euro area recorded a surplus of 204.8 billion euros, compared with 169.1 billion euros during the same months in 2015.
By contrast, the 28-nation EU region recorded a 0.5 billion euros surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in September.
However, this was a significant decline compared with a surplus of 3.7 billion euros in September 2015. (1 euro = 1.08 U.S. dollars) Endit
