Altogether 42 countries signed Tuesday the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) Partnership to enable an effective cooperation between countries of the North and the South on implementing the Paris Agreement.
The NDC Partnership, initiated by Morocco and Germany, aims at supporting developing countries with effective access to the technical knowledge and financial support necessary in combating climate change.
The NDC Partnership is a big achievement and significant political message to the international community and the first step towards delivering the Paris Agreement, said French global climate champion Laurence Tubiana, who opened the launch ceremony on the sidelines of the Marrakech climate change conference.
Moroccan global climate champion Hakima El Haite also welcomed the momentum generated by the new partnership as a "milestone" to unlock the full potential of the agreement.
He said at the opening ceremony that the initiative will enhance effective cooperation between countries of the North and the South in capacity building.
German Development Minister Gerd Muller said that the NDC Partnership is "a new instrument to share knowledge and match financial resources with climate action programs."
The initiative also has institutional partners including the European Commission, the World Bank and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Endit
