20 die after taking traditional alcohol in Cameroon

Xinhua, November 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Twenty people were killed and ten others were hospitalized in critical conditions after taking traditional alcohol named Odontol in East Region of Cameroon last week, local newspaper Cameroon Tribune reported on Tuesday.

East Region Governor Gregoire Mvongo was quoted by the newspaper as saying the victims were from 7 villages in the region, adding a medical team was dispatched to the sites to provide treatment to other people who consumed the alcohol.

The people in the villages usually drink the alcohol on occasions of wedding and other festivals. According to the newspaper, the victims went unconscious several hours after taking the alcohol last week, and died in the next few days.

The authorities are making investigations on the incidents. Endit
