China on Tuesday handed over aid materials worth about 160,000 U.S. dollars to the Tanzania Red Cross Society (TRCS) to strengthen its disaster preparedness.

Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Lu Youqing, said at the handing-over ceremony that the TRCS has played an important role in disaster management and contributes to social development of the country and well-being of its people.

The materials donated by China include an ambulance, computer sets, gasoline water pumps, tents and mosquito nets among others.

TRCS acting President Mwadini Jecha extended gratitude to China, saying the donation does not only symbolize the long standing cordial relations between the two National Red Cross Societies but also marks another milestone in the various endeavors aimed at strengthening the disaster preparedness and response capacity of TRCS.

"We hope this spirit of collaboration between our two National Red Cross Societies (Tanzania and China) will continue," he said. Endit
