First Lancang-Mekong sub-regional commodity expo opens in Yunnan

Xinhua, November 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

The first session of the Lancang-Mekong sub-regional commodity exposition opened in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Tuesday.

The expo is part of the efforts of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) mechanism, which was established during the first Lancang-Mekong leaders' meeting held in Sanya, Hainan this March.

Officials, business representatives, experts and scholars from China, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Myanmar are attending the expo.

They will discuss issues regarding construction of processing trade parks, financial cooperation, the internationalization of the RMB, and the Maritime Silk Road.

Sutee Markboon, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior of Thailand, said the expo provides a good opportunity for the six countries in the Lancang-Mekong sub-region to cooperate, learn from each other, and boost people's living standards.

Yunnan Province will also boost construction of free trade zones around its borders with these countries while strengthening cooperation and exchange with them.

The expo will last until Nov. 20. During the expo, business seminars and cultural exchange activities will also be held. Endi
