Russia's FSB detains IS-linked fighters in North Caucasus

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained five individuals linked to the Islamic State terrorist group and suspected of plotting attacks in Moscow and in the North Caucasian republic of Ingushetia, the FSB said Tuesday.

FSB officers seized five firearms, two ready-to-use improvised explosive devices (IED) of 10 kg in TNT equivalent each, homemade electric detonators and ammunition for various weapons, it said in a statement.

A criminal case has been opened against the detainees on the count of involvement in activities of a terrorist organization banned in Russia.

The FSB said that in October it had neutralized the leader of the group Zubeir Sautiyev, also an IS emissary, as well as his five accomplices.

This is the second special operation by Russia's intelligence and security agency within one week. On Saturday, the FSB said it had detained 10 individuals on suspicion of planning attacks in Moscow and Russia's second largest city of St. Petersburg, who admitted their link to IS.

IS militants have threatened to attack Russia since the country launched its air campaign against terrorist groups in Syria in late 2015. Endi
