Athletes from 40 countries and regions to attend World Pencak Silat championship in Indonesia

Athletes from 40 countries and regions will vie in the Word Pencak Silat martial art in Bali Island of Indonesia from Dec. 3 to 6, Secretary General of Indonesian Pencak Silat Association Teddy Suratmadji said here on Tuesday.

"Scores of athletes have arrived in Bali to compete in the world's martial art championshhip," Suratmadji said.

So far, athletes from 32 countries and regions, including Netherland, French, Germany, Spain, Iran, and others, have confirmed their participation in the international sport event to be held at Lila Bua stadium in Denpasar city of the resort island, he added.

"I think the number will rise days before it kicks off," Suratmadji added.

Indonesia will send 39 athletes to the international championship of the sport originating from Indonesia, said Eddy Prabowo, chairman of the committee. .

One of the goals of the event is to develop the Indonesian traditional martial art, he said.

"More great athletes of Pencak Silat at the world's level, the better it is," said Eddy. Endite
