Indonesia intensifies coordination with New Zealand for safety of nationals after quake

Indonesian government is intensifying communication and coordination with New Zealand authorities and Indonesian nationals residing in the country, after New Zealand was rocked by a 7.5 magnitude quake early Monday and aftershocks are still underway, a statement released by Indonesian foreign affairs ministry said on Monday.

The statement said the Indonesian embassy in New Zealand has actively contacted nationals staying in cities around the epicenter in Kaikoura.

According to information from Indonesian embassy in Wellington, all Indonesian nationals residing in the cities affected by earthquake of Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, and Nelson were safe.

New Zealand authorities said two people died and dozens others injured from the earthquake.

There are around 4,000 Indonesians staying in New Zealand. The ministry advised them to remain alert to respond to the developing situation after the earthquake. Enditem
