Tokyo stocks extend gains in morning as Dow's record high on Trump hopes lifts mood

Tokyo stocks extended gains Friday morning, with investors snapping up issues, following the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at a record-high overnight on hopes the presidency of Donald Trump will lead to new, broad economic policies.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 49.30 points, or 0.28 percent, from Thursday to 17,393.72.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 4.25 points, or 0.31 percent, to 1,380.60.

Notable gainers by the morning break were led by insurance, banking and securities-linked stocks. Endit
