Paintings on Chinese fans are on display in Brussels, providing a glimpse into the world of Chinese arts.

Entitled "FANtastic! The Art of Chinese Fans", the week-long exhibition showcases artworks by 39 Chinese artists.

Opened here at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs earlier this week, the event is part of the international touring exhibition of China National Academy of Painting's collection of fine arts.

Chinese fans enjoy a history of more than 3,000 years, integrate multiple art forms including painting, calligraphy, fabric art and craft designs.

"In the 17th century, fans imported from China became popular in Europe. Fans are telling the stories of beautiful encounters between eastern and western culture," said Zhang Jianzhou, vice president of China National Academy of Painting, during a speech delivered at the opening ceremony. Endit
