Indonesian soccer association elects new chairman

Xinhua, November 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Indonesian soccer association (PSSI) on Thursday elected Leut. General Edy Rahmayadi as chairman, a move expected to pave a reform in PSSI following internal conflicts.

Rahmayadi, the chief of the country's army strategic reserve command, was elected as PSSI chairman for the period of 2016 to 2020, replacing La Nyala Mattaliti, said Agum Gumelar, chairman of the committee for the election.

Rahmayadi secured more than fifty percent of votes during the election at Mercure Hotel, Gumelar said.

"I declare the result of the poll is valid. Hopefully, this soccer association will be improved in the near future," Gumelar said.

Six candidates took part in the election for the chairmanship after three aborted their participation, Gumelar added.

The PSSI has been freed from FIFA sanction, which had exiled it from international events, as it has insisted to conduct a reform on the organization. Endit
