Tokyo shares open higher ahead of U.S. election outcome

Tokyo shares opened higher on Wednesday as investors forecast Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to win the U.S. presidential election.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 122.99 points, or 0.72 percent, from Tuesday to 17,294.37.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 8.85 points, or 0.65 percent, to 1,372.34.

Gainers were led by insurance, securities and electric power and gas issues. Endit
