Zambia defeats Uganda 1-0 in international friendly

Xinhua, November 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Zambia national football team, Chipolopolo Stars, on Tuesday picked a 1-0 win against hosts Uganda Cranes in an international friendly played at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Chisamba Lungu had his hot diverted by Uganda's defender Isaac Isinde in the 25th minute to give the Zambian team the lone goal.

Uganda's defenders had failed to clear the ball out of danger only to find a well positioned Lungu who shot to score.

Moments later Uganda's defender Joseph Ochaya delivered a beautiful cross but William Kizito Luwagga's header missed the target from close range.

Ochaya and Geoffrey Walusimbi continued to combine well in attack for Uganda, but the Zambians looked more comfortable in all departments.

In the second half, the two teams created several scoring opportunities, but failed to convert.

"We are happy that after losing 1-0 to Zimbabwe last weekend, we have managed to win by a similar score before we travel to face Cameroon in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier this weekend," Zambia's coach Wedson Nyirenda told Xinhua.

His Ugandan counterpart Milutin Sredojevic said his team will have to go back to the drawing board ahead of the World Cup qualifier match against Congo Brazzaville on Saturday in Kampala.

"We need to get better in attack," added the coach. Endit
