Zambian president fires information minister

Xinhua, November 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Tuesday fired his information minister, his office said.

Presidential spokesperson Amos Chanda said Lungu has with immediate effect terminated the services of Chishimba Kambwili, who was reappointed to the portfolio after the August 11 general elections.

The terse statement however did not state any reasons for the decision but only noted that Lungu has appointed Kampamba Mulenga, a ruling party lawmaker, as the new information minister.

"The president has encouraged the new minister to serve diligently and with high levels of integrity as she takes up this important role," he said.

Last week, Lungu revealed that he would start firing some of his ministers following reports of involvement in corrupt deals. Endit
