"Doctor Strange" rules Chinese box office

Disney and Marvel's "Doctor Strange" debuted to become the number one movie in Chinese box offices for the week ending Nov. 6, China Film News reported Tuesday.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Rachel McAdams, "Doctor Strange" gained an edge in ticket sales, grossing a total of 299 million yuan (44 million U.S. dollars) since hitting Chinese screens on Nov. 4.

"Mr. Donkey," a domestic comedy, grabbed second place with 73 million yuan in sales in Chinese theaters in its second week.

"Inferno," a Hollywood suspense film featuring Tom Hanks, landed in third place, taking in 43 million yuan last week.0 Fourth place went to domestic thriller "Hide and Seek," ringing up 39 million yuan last week after its release on Nov. 4.

Rounding out the top five was Hollywood action film "Mechanic: Resurrection," which made 38 million yuan last week. Endi
