Nicaragua's ruling Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) won a landslide victory in Sunday's general elections, garnering 72.5 percent of the votes counted so far, the Supreme Electoral Council (CSE) announced Monday.
The latest count was presented to the press by CSE President Roberto Rivas, based on results from 99.8 percent of the more than 14,000 voting stations across the country. (Nicaragua-Elections)

DAMASCUS -- The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) rebels continued to advance on Monday against the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria's northern city of al-Raqqa, the de facto capital of IS, a monitor group reported.
Intense battles continued to rage between the SDF and the IS in the northern countryside of al-Raqqa, a day after the Kurdish-led group declared a wide-scale offensive to "liberate" al-Raqqa from the IS terrorists, according to the Syria Observatory for Human Rights. (Syria-Raqqa-IS)

JAKARTA -- An earthquake measuring 6.0 Richter scale struck off Banten province of western Indonesia earlier Tuesday, but was not potential for tsunami, the meteorology and geophysics agency said.
The quake epicenter was at 271 km southwest Lebak of the province, at 10 km under sea bed, an official of the agency said. (Indonesia-Earthquake)

NEW DELHI -- At least 26 people were killed after drowning in different parts of India's eastern state of Bihar during celebrations of the Hindu festival of Chhath Pooja, officials said Monday.
"Six causalities were reported from Patna district followed by five in Muzaffarpur and three each drowned in Khagaria and Purnea," an official posted in Patna city, the capital of Bihar said. (India-Festival-Drowning) Endi
