Jordan finalises talks with World Bank on 250 mln USD loan

Xinhua, November 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordn said Monday it has finalized talks with the World Bank on a 250 million U.S. dollar loan.

Jordan is expected to receive the loan before the end of this year, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Emad Fakhoury said in a statement.

The loan seeks to address challenges in the sectors of water and energy and will support the state budget, the said.

The loan will be transferred to the treasury following the World Bank's meeting in December, Fakhoury said.

The minister said the loan will help Jordan better cope with the large number of Syrian refugees it hosts.

The presence of about 1.4 million Syrian refugees in Jordan places major pressure on the country's water, energy, education, and health sectors.

In July, the World Bank endorsed a "country partnership framework" with Jordan, offering up to 1.4 billion dollars in financing for 2017-2022. Endit
