Myanmar gov't pledges more cooperation for media sector development

Myanmar Minister for Information U Pe Myint said on Monday the ministry will cooperate with both local and international organizations in development of local media sector.

U Pe Myint made the remarks at the 5th Myanmar Media Development Conference here.

Stressing the importance of the freedom of expression, U Pe Myint said there are still restriction for local journalists to take news although there are more media freedom than the past few years.

The two-day conference is being held with the theme "Inclusive Independent Media In A New Democracy" and will highlight on media laws, safety of journalists, gender issues, right to information, sustainability of the independent media, enhancing the voices from social media and community media through discussions.

The conference is jointly organized by the Myanmar media circle and supported by Myanmar Ministry of Information, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)and the IMS-FOJO Media Development Program in Myanmar. Endit
