France expresses concern over Kurdish lawmakers' arrest in Turkey

Xinhua, November 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

France is seriously concerned after Turkey arrested Kurdish lawmakers, French foreign ministry spokesman Romain Nadal said on Friday.

"France calls on Turkey to respect the rule of law and fundamental rights including democracy and freedom of the press," Nadal told reporters in a daily e-briefing.

Earlier on Friday, Turkish authorities arrested Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag, co-leaders of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and nine lawmakers of main pro-Kurdish opposition party, in a "terrorism" investigation, according to reports. Endit
