Algeria to send humanitarian aid to Libya

Xinhua, November 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

The government of Algeria on Wednesday said it will send humanitarian aid to the Libyan people living in border areas between the two countries.

"The aid will be sent soon, and be added to those already granted in recent years for the brotherly Libyan people," the foreign ministry said in a statement, without revealing the content or the amount of the aid.

Algerian authorities have been offering shelter to hundreds of Libyan people who fled the civil war hitting their nation since 2011, and urging Libyan disputing parties to form a national unity government to tackle prevailing challenges.

Meanwhile, Algeria has deployed more than 50,000 troops along its 1,000 km borderline with Libya to thwart potential attacks by armed groups linked to al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb and the infiltration of arms. Endit
