Jordan says 2017 Arab Summit to address regional pressing issues

Xinhua, November 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Judeh said Wednesday the next Arab Summit to be held in Jordan next year will address pressing issues facing the Arab world.

At a meeting with Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abu El Gheit in Amman, the minister said Jordan will continue preparations with the Arab League for holding the summit slated for March, 2017.

"Several key issues and challenges will be addressed during the summit," Judeh said at a joint press conference after the meeting.

Stressing that the Palestinian issue will remain a crucial problem in the Middle East, Judeh called for intensified efforts to resume peace talks in line with the international legitimacy resolutions and the two state solution leading to the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The minister also urged more efforts to address issues of terrorism and violence in the Middle East.

Referring to the issue of Syrian refugees, the minister highlighted the pressure on Jordan amidst hosting some 1.4 million Syrian refugees.

The Arab League official voiced appreciation for Jordan's efforts to attain regional peace. Endit
