Xinhua, November 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

French President Francois Hollande on Wednesday discussed the U.S.-led offensive to retake the Iraqi city of Mosul, saying the offensive was progressing as scheduled.

During a defense council meeting at Elysee Palace, Hollande took stock of military action against Islamic State (IS) in Iraq whose "progress conforms to objectives," the presidency office said in a statement.

He also reiterated the need to protect civilians and facilitate access to humanitarian aid in the city.

On the Syrian situation, the statement urged efforts to be pursued at all levels to allow access of humanitarian supplies and evacuate the wounded in the Aleppo neighborhoods.

The meeting was also an opportunity to review measures to combat terrorism and ensure security, according to the statement. Endi
