The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Wednesday.

-- A Zambian court has placed the country's biggest private newspaper under compulsory liquidation after five former employees petitioned the court to have the newspaper liquidated. (Daily Nation)

-- The Zambian government said there was need to change the laws that govern the country's pension payment system and move towards a monthly payment system.

Minister of Labor and Social Security Joyce Simukoko said there was need to make the changes to the pension payment plan, because the current one disadvantaged the workers.

Hundreds of retirees who worked for the government are stranded as they have to wait for years to get their benefits. (Times of Zambia)

-- Public bus drivers have opposed the Zambian government's decision to ban movement of public vehicles at night.

On Tuesday, the government banned public service vehicles from operating at night as a way to reduce road traffic accidents after statistics showed 55 percent of accidents occurred at night compared to 45 percent during the day. (Zambia Daily Mail) Endit
