Landmine blast kills army major in northwestern Pakistan

Pakistani army said Tuesday that a soldier was killed and several injured in a roadside blast in South Waziristan tribal region in northwestern Pakistan.

The security forces have cleared most of Waziristan region of armed groups however some are still hiding in rugged mountains and target the forces.

"An officer, Maj Imran embraced shahadat (martyrdom) due to an IED blast during a cordon and search operation in Wana in South Wazirastan agency today while six soldiers were injured," an army statement said.

No group has claimed responsibility of the incident. Endit
