Fire, explosion deaths up in Vietnam in first 10 months

A total of 2,660 fires and explosions occurred in Vietnam in the first 10 months of this year, killing 96 people and injuring 224 others, the fire prevention authorities said Tuesday.

The accidents also caused losses of some 1,156 billion Vietnamese dong (51.8 million U.S. dollars), according to the country's Fire Prevention and Fight Department.

In the same period last year, the Southeast Asian country suffered 2,501 fires and explosions, which left 75 people dead and 262 others injured, and caused losses of 853.3 billion Vietnamese dong (nearly 38.3 million U.S. dollars).

Natural disasters killed or left 172 people missing, injured 324 others, and caused property losses of nearly 13,100 billion Vietnamese dong (587.4 million U.S. dollars) in the first 10 months of 2016, said Vietnam's General Statistics Office. Enditem
