Tokyo shares open lower amid oil price slump, uncertainty over U.S. election

Tokyo shares opened lower on Tuesday as weak oil price and renewed uncertainty over the result of the U.S. election weighed on investor sentiment.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 80.13 points, or 0.46 percent, from Monday to 17,344.89.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange slid 8.40 points, or 0.60 percent, to 1,384.62.

Decliners were led by marine transportation, glass and ceramic product, and mining issues. Endit
