1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close lower Monday

Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.12 percent, at 3,100.49 points.

The smaller Shenzhen Component index closed 0.06 percent lower at 10,704.3 points.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, shed 0.26 percent to close at 2,159.76 points.

Total turnover stood at 435.2 billion yuan (about 64.4 billion U.S. dollars), down slightly from the previous trading day.

More than 1,300 stocks rose on the last trading day of the month, led by gold dealers and securities companies. Zhongjin Gold Corp., Ltd. gained 2.38 percent to 12.46 yuan. Guoyuan Securities Company Limited rose 2.85 percent to 22.4 yuan.

Nonferrous metals, textiles and auto part companies also advanced by less than one percent.

Technology companies retreated with Nari Technology Co., Ltd. down 7.16 percent to 15.3 yuan.

Backed by improving economic data, stocks on the two major bourses have gained 3.19 percent and 1.29 percent respectively since the start of the month. Endi
