Albania drafts new plan to boost contribution of non-food industry to economy

Xinhua, October 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Albanian ministry of energy and industry has drafted a specific strategy which aims at doubling the share of non-food industry in the economy for a long-term period, experts from this institution informed Sunday.

According to them, the sector of the non-food industry does not provide the contribution it should give to the economy here due to the lack of the value chain.

The Albanian economy ministry's strategy foresees that the contribution in exports will grow at the rate of 1.5-2 percent per year, while employment in key sectors of the non-food industry will grow 2 to 2.5 percent per year, experts told local media.

In the countries of the region, non-food industry occupies 7-8 percent of GDP while Albania is ranked almost the last one in this regard.

Therefore, Albanian economy ministry experts said that the strategy aims to improve the climate for attracting foreign investments as a potential instrument in the development of the industry and to promote application of modern technologies depending on the non-food industry branches. Endit
