New high-speed train station opens in Ankara

A new high speed train station in Ankara was inaugurated on Saturday, Turkey's National Day, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Binali Yildirim were present at the opening ceremony.

The station will provide service to 50,000 people per day, including large commercial spaces for shops, department stores, an array of restaurants, cafes, cinema and a five-star hotel with 134 rooms, local Daily Sabah reported.

Locating close to the city center, the new station can be accessed through underground and ground lines and also has a parking area with a capacity of more than 900 vehicles.

The facility has an area of 194,460 square meters and consists of eight floors, including the basements, three platforms and six high-speed lines.

The station will be operated by the newly established Ankara Train Station Company for over 19 years, and will later be handed over to the Turkish State Railways.

The 235-million-U.S.-dollar train station, which was built in two years, is among a set of leading infrastructure projects planned as part of a series of objectives for the country's centennial in 2023, according to Anadolu news agency. Endit
