Dubai gov't, business delegation wraps up Shanghai promotional visit

Xinhua, October 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

A delegation of 80 Dubai government officials and decision makers of public and private firms from the Gulf Arab sheikhdom wrapped up on Saturday a three-day visit to Shanghai to promote the emirate during the second annual "Dubai Week in China," the United Arab Emirates (UAE) state news agency WAM reported.

During the "Dubai Week," the Dubai Chamber of Commerce opened its first trade office in China's economic hub of Shanghai.

Hisham Al Shirawi, the second vice-chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, said the UAE and Dubai play a critical role as an investment and trade hub along the new Silk Road, with strategic access to the Middle East, Africa and South Asian markets.

During the "Dubai Week," a total of 11 agreements were sealed, said Dubai's government-controlled Falcon and Associates in an e-mailed statement.

More than 250 Chinese government officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs and investors were in attendance at the event.

Dubai's non-oil trade with China has grown steadily in recent years, reaching 176 billion dirham (about 48 billion U.S. dollars) in 2015, according to WAM. There are currently 2,829 Chinese companies registered with the Dubai Chamber.

The first "Dubai Week in China" was held in Beijing in May 2015. Endit
