The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Saturday.
-- The Zambian government has launched a campaign to have more than 200,000 males circumcised by the end of this year.
Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya, who launched the National Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision, said this was part of the ministry's 2016-2020 operational plan to avert 380,000 HIV infections by the year 2030 and in turn to save an expected 250 million U.S. dollars in treatment. -- Mining giant Glencore has committed to invest 167 million U.S. dollars in expansion projects at its Zambian unit.
Glencore, which owns Mopani Copper Mines (MCM), said the investment was aimed at increasing copper production.
Chris Vermuleni, the Zambian unit's chief operating officer, said Glencore still has confidence in its Zambian operations hence its commitment to continuing supporting the firm's expansion and modernization plans. (Zambia Daily Mail)
-- The Zambian government has warned that there will be no sacred cows in the fight against tax evasion as it was determined to expand its revenue base as well as improve collection.
Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba said the government was putting in place measures and legislation to ensure that all business entities paid their fair share of taxes and that those avoiding meeting their tax obligations should be ready to face the wrath of the law. (Daily Nation) Endit
