-- The UN has negotiated the release of nearly 900 children detained by Nigeria's army and security forces after they retook land from Boko Haram militants, a senior official said.

The 876 children had been held in the barracks in Maiduguri, UNICEF Regional Director for Western and Central Africa, Manuel Fontaine, said after visiting the northeastern city. (Vanguard)

-- The military has issued a stern warning to Niger Delta militants to embrace the Federal Government peace initiative or face the full wrath of the law.

Chief of Air Staff Sadique Abubakar issued this warning three days after the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) destroyed Chevron Escravos export pipeline at Escravos offshore. (The Guardian)
