Xinhua, October 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

"North Core" project as part of the West African Power Pool (WAPP), an integrated power systems of 14 West African States, will be operational by 2019.

WAPP'general secretary Mr. Siengui Apollinaire Sy makes this public over Benin national television on Friday in the capital Cotonou, at the end of a meeting of ministers responsible for energy in WAPP States members.

North Core project is purposed to help Nigeria, Niger, Togo, Burkina Faso and Benin to face their energy challenge through the interconnection of their national grids.

The project will have 450 Megawatt outputs as commissioned in 2019 and should cost 600 million U.S.dollars.

"The 450 Megawatt outputs could increase to 915 Megawatt by 2030" , Mr. Siengui Apollinaire Sy explained.

The West African Power Pool (WAPP) is a specialized institution of the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas).

It is purposed to integrate the operations of the national power systems into a unified regional electricity market so as to ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply at competitive cost. Enditem
