Iran-Turkey gas pipeline halted after blast in eastern Turkey

The flow of Iranian natural gas to Turkey was halted after an blast hit pipelines in eastern Turkey on Thursday night, local Dogan news agency reported Friday.

According to the report, the blast occurred near Dogubayazit town of Agri province and the fire continued on Friday.

The flame was rising up to 50 meters after the explosion which could be seen from Igdir and Agri cities. The reason is still unknown.

The gas flow to Turkey was temporarily stopped after the blast, Iranian Interior Ministry official Majid Aghai told Tasnim, Iran's semi-official news agency on Friday.

The local gendarmerie took extensive security measures at the scene, and the investigation about the reason of the explosion is underway. Endit
