Xinhua, October 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

The main board of the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) of Montenegro proposed the party's vice president Dusko Markovic as prime minister in the new government, according to the party's press release on Wednesday.

Markovic was proposed by former prime minister and the president of DPS, Milo Djukanovic, who said at the session that he is certain of Markovic's professional and human qualities and his readiness to lead the new government.

Djukanovic said the new government "will face numerous challenges in upcoming four years," while he plans to work on strengthening the ruling party as its president.

Montenegro held a parliamentary election on Oct. 16, and the DPS won 36 MP seats out of 81 in the parliament, according to the preliminary results published by the State Electoral Commission on Oct.19.

The release stated that Djukanovic, in his speech at the session of the main board, stressed Markovic's capability to bring the country's integration processes to EU and NATO to an end, improve economic growth and living standard and continue to secure fiscal sustainability of the budget as well as security and stability of the state.

Djukanovic said he will give his full support to the future government in all these processes.

Markovic said at the session that the government must turn promises to reality.

According to the release, the main board confirmed that the party won near 160,000 votes at October 16 elections, and that the process of forming the new government should be finished by November 10 or 11. Endit
