Xinhua, October 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

French consumers gained more confidence in the country's financial and economic situation in October than a month earlier, according to data released Wednesday by the national statistics institute, Insee.

In October, the consumer sentiment indicator stood at 98 points, its highest level since October 2007, but it remained below its long-term average, the report said.

More people expressed optimism over their future financial situation. Their willingness to make major purchases also improved by one point to minus five when compared to September figures.

At the end of October, French consumers were more confident about the country's future economic performance with a gain of two points to minus 29, according to Insee data.

As for the jobless trend, French households were more concerned over the labor market as the index increased sharply by 10 points to 41, above its long term average, it said.

The French economy was expected to grow by 1.5 percent this year, the same rate set for 2017, up from 1.3 percent recorded in 2015. Endit
