New Zealand looking to "reinvigorate" single market with Australia

New Zealand government ministers will be seeking to further integrate the trans-Tasman economic partnership in talks in Australia this week.

Deputy Prime Minister Bill English said Wednesday would be leading a team of five other ministers to the annual Australia New Zealand Leadership Forum (ANZLF) in Sydney on Thursday.

More than 20 chief executives from the largest trans-Tasman companies would engage with ministers from both governments at thee forum on initiatives to strengthen the bilateral trade and economic relationship valued at 24 billion NZ dollars (17.18 billion U.S. dollars).

"Seventy-five percent of New Zealand exporters generate income in Australia, so it is vital that we keep the trans-Tasman economy energized," English said in a statement.

English would hold separate talks with Australian Treasurer Scott Morrison, while ministers from both sides would meet to discuss new initiatives to reinvigorate the bilateral single economic market agenda.

"We are continuing to build a seamless trans-Tasman market so that it is as easy for New Zealand businesses to operate in Sydney as it is in Auckland," English said.

English and Morrison would launch the Australia New Zealand Infrastructure Pipeline (ANZIP), which was designed to provide greater transparency to the construction sector, as well as global investors, to better identify infrastructure opportunities on both sides of the Tasman.

English would be accompanied by Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce, Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy, Trade Minister Todd McClay, Customs Minister Nicky Wagner and Commerce Minister Paul Goldsmith. Endit
