Polish gov't passes territorial defence bill

Xinhua, October 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Polish government on Tuesday passed a bill which introduces a territorial defence force as a separate national armed force, Polish Press Agecny reported.

The force is to be employed on military land operations as an auxiliary to regular army units, as well as anti-crisis and anti-terrorist operations.

Service on the force will range from one to six years on a rotational basis and will be preceded by a 16-day training course.

Under government plans, the territorial force is to number about 35,000 in 2018.

Over coming years, the territorial defence force is to consist of 17 brigades, one in each province and two in the central province Mazowieckie.

Territorial defence battalions are to be formed in the Polish cities of Bialystok, Lublin, Rzeszow and Siedlce.

The government plans to introduce the territorial defence laws on Jan. 1, 2017. Endit
