Typhoon Haima causes direct economic losses worth 700 mln USD

Typhoon Haima has caused estimated direct economic losses of 4.76 billion yuan (702.65 million U.S. dollars) in the three provinces of Jiangsu, Fujian, and Guangdong, the Ministry of Civil Affairs announced Tuesday.

As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, about 114,000 residents had been relocated, 239,500 hectares of crops and 3,200 houses damaged, and another 600 houses destroyed by the typhoon, according to the statement.

Typhoon Haima, the 22nd typhoon of the year, made landfall in the southern province of Guangdong on Oct. 21.

In Guangdong, the worst-hit province, Haima has displaced 95,000 people, and 62,000 people are in urgent need of basic living supplies. Endit
