Electric car sales in Ukraine almost triple in first half of 2016

Sales of new electric passenger cars in Ukraine have almost tripled in the first half of 2016, driven by tax cuts, local media reported Monday, citing the data from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association.
In January through June this year, a total of 192 electric cars were sold in Ukraine compared with only 72 vehicles in the same period a year ago.
Local experts have attributed the surging sales to the exemption of green vehicles from import duties, ranging from 8 percent to 10 percent of the car price, starting from Jan. 1, 2016.
The increase in fossil fuel prices and the development of infrastructure for charging electric vehicles also contributed to the boost of Ukraine' s electric car market.
Nissan Leaf and Tesla Model S were the best-selling electric car models in Ukraine in the first half of 2016, taking a market share of 74 percent and 10.4 percent respectively.
According to the Ukravtoprom Analysis Group, the overall new passenger car sales in Ukraine rose by 58 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2016 to 27,210 units. Endit
