370 militants killed in Afghan eastern Ghazni province in 20 days: official

Up to 370 Taliban militants had been killed over the past 20 days in the eastern Ghazni province and the armed outfit's design to overrun the province has been thwarted, provincial governor Abdul Karim Matin said Monday.

"A total of 370 Taliban rebels have been killed over the past 20 days around provincial capital Ghazni city, Deyak, Andar and Giro districts and the enemies conspiracy to gain ground has been foiled," Matin told reporters at a press conference here.

According to the official, 148 more militants had been injured over the period.

He also admitted that 35 security personnel had lost their lives in the war against Taliban fighters during the operations.

Taliban militants, according to the official were attempting to block Kandahar-Kabul highway which passing through Ghazni province had been foiled.

Meantime, General Sharif Yaftali, a senior army commander in southeastern region of Afghanistan said at the press conference that government forces launched a 20-day major offensive dubbed "Sultan operation" across the relativley Ghazni province which concluded today and resultantly 370 militants had been killed and vast areas had been secured.
