Jordan reiterates support for legitimate gov't in Yemen to restore stability

Xinhua, October 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Monday stressed his country's support for Yemen's legitimate government and for efforts to restore stability and security in the war-torn country, state-run Petra news agency reported.

Mulki made the remarks at a meeting with visiting Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr, in which the two sides discussed the latest developments in Yemen.

He pointed to Jordanian King Abdullah II's keenness to find political solutions to the crises in the region.

"A political solution helps preserve the unity of Yemen and end the fighting," said Mulki.

He urged the implementation of the UN resolution 2216 that calls upon the Houthis to refrain from any provocations or threats to neighbouring states, release the defense minister, all political prisoners and people under house arrest or arbitrarily detained, and end the recruitment of children.

For his part, the Yemeni prime minister briefed Mulki on the latest developments in Yemen, stressing that the Yemeni government seeks peace through the implementation of the UN resolution.

He also voiced appreciation for Jordan's support to Yemen in all areas. Endit
